November & December Free workshops!

Fermented Foods & Kombucha, Friday, November 18th, 4 to 6pm Fermentation has been used by all people in all places to preserve food. With the advent of canning, refrigeration, and the global food system the use of fermentation has all but disappeared from today’s kitchens.  This workshop will attempt to return some of these traditions to general use.  We will cover vegetable, and a Kombucha beverages.

Deer Canning with a pressure cooker, Saturday, November 19th, 10 to 3pm Learn how to safely can deer meat and take home a couple jars. We supply the deer meat but please bring a few pint jars.

Spoon-Carving, Saturday, December 3rd,  10 to 3:30
Learn knife techniques as you carve your own spoon. All supplies and tools provided for.IMG_2665-1

Making Salves and Wild Teas for Winter Health, Sunday, December 4th,  10- 12:30 Participants will make a medicinal ointment/salve and teas from some of our Native wild plants. salve hands

All workshops are free and coordinated by Extension Service of White Earth Tribal and Community College, Wadiswan Campus, 2254 College Rd, Mahnomen

2016 Wild Food Summit Registration Deadline Extended

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2016

The 10th Wild Food Summit (WFS) runs Thursday, June 16th thru Sunday the 19th at the White Earth Reservation Little Elbow Lake DSC04771Tribal Campground. This year, we are running it as an ‘Open Space event.’ with topics led by those attending.

Since the Wild Food Summit is a different format for this year, all wild food identification and preparationregistrations for WFS will be brought through a committee and accepted based on each applicant’s input as to their contributions and knowledge they would like to learn and share with their local communities.

The Registration Deadline has been extended to Thursday, March 10, 2016.  All Applicants will be notified via email on their registration proposals after that date. Approved proposals will be given a link to complete registration payment.

Registration fee: $100.00 Per Adult (Youth 17 & Younger-Free) Free registration to White Earth area residents.
